People tend to think that getting a job abroad is difficult for the teachers, simply because the curriculum is different in every country and then there is the language barriers. However, these problems go away when we are talking about the English teaching. English is English in every country and you need to teach the same rules and words to every student around the world. Moreover, in several countries, English is taught in English so the need to know the local language is eliminated. Thailand is a great example of that. On the same note, it would also help to know the basic Thai.
You would need one additional qualification, however, to teach English in Thailand. You will need either TEFL or TESOL certificates with you, along with a bachelor degree. TEFL stands for Teaching English as Foreign Language while TESOL stands for Teaching English to the Speakers of Other Languages. Basically, they are the same and either of these certificates will work. If you don’t have that with you, you can also do your TEFL certification in Thailand. There are so many institutes in the country, especially in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai, who offer full-fledged TEFL courses to the students.
You can do your TEFL certificate in your native country as well but the course fee would obviously be more. Thailand institutes employ foreign trainers so basically you don’t compromise with your learning while paying much less. Many foreign aspiring students complete the TEFL course only after coming to Thailand.
