This course, which is part of the TAP program training, is offered monthly and trains a dozen new teachers on each course, who then go on to teach all over the world. It is well known among recruiters for producing well-rounded teachers capable of stepping into the classroom with confidence. Those seeking to get their TEFL independently and do the job hunting on their own, often opt to take the UniTEFL course.
As a TEFL International network centre, UniTEFL in Chiang Mai follows the same PPP curriculum that is offered in 30 centres in 22 countries. It is validated by Fort Hays University (which award 3 credits towards its TESOL undergraduate program). TEFL International has an independent board that constantly monitors standards. Alumni of this course are well received by recruiters the world over.
The course is run by very experienced trainers, with 15 years of training between them and supported by several other lecturers and observers. The teaching practicums are conducted on a 3-1 trainee-trainer ratio. There are six such practicums, conducted in local schools to reproduce a real teaching environment. These are critical for experience and a compulsory element of the TI curriculum.
